I am not very clear when to use the word pictures, photographs or images.I will be obliged if someone clarifies by quoting examples.

an image is any visual representation made on any surface or delivered by any medium – It can be scratched into a park bench or it could mean a picture or photograph.

A picture can mean a photograph, a movie, framed art work– a fairly universal word and not very specific, you have to see in which context it is uses.

A photograph is used exclusively for pictures or images taken with a camera either a film or digital camera.

Use the word photograph only when you are referring to a picture or Image taken with a camera.

Use image or picture for to describe any image, picture, or photograph, but when you do, it should be clear within the context of what type of medium you are talking about.

He painted my picture.
He took my picture
He mada an Image of me from clay
Look at that picture on the pc.
etc.

Ain’t English great?

Any ideas? Please give me any thoughts you have, and tell me your opinion on the subject.

I frequently browse a website that did not have advertisement banners before. Now they have big, ugly banners for another website that the owner also manages, but he says that they are "normal size" when I complained about it. Is there any way to discretely block a directory of images on a site and not accidentally block every image on that site?

Try downloading AdBlock Plus (its an extension for firefox).
Go to Tools->Add-Ons->Get Add-Ons.
Search Adblock and click on Adblock Plus.
Adblock will automatically block most adds on most websites.
If it does not you can right click on the image you wish to block and click block this image.

I’ve been able to make a clickable photo gallery but i want to learn to make one that plays the photos by itself then stops at the last picture.can anyone help me?

What is good editing program for editing photos ? Like many of the blog photos around these days?
Many of my friends make their photos nice by adding like a differnt colour tone like making it look antique or just softer colours and makes the photo look proffessional. Im just looking for a program like that which i can download online ?

I’m doing a project about smoking, and would like good quality medical photographs to show the effects and trauma that smoking and tobacco products cause like cancerous lungs, Emphysema, heart disease, mouth and throat cancer- and other malignant diseases.
Also, I would like photographs of actual surgery involving patients who have smoked.
Can anyone tell me where I can get hold of these types of photographs? Any websites, medical picture libraries, other sources etc. Actually – the more shocking they are, the better!

I want to send a photo from my windows photo gallery to my daughter on yahoo messenger.How do I do this?

Open the picture, (make it big) right click on the picture and click Save As. A box will open asking where to save it select My Pictures click save. Now it is on your computer you can attach it to a email like you would any other picture.

cuz i made a video and when i put it into my computer the only option i have is to put it into windows live photo gallery and when i import into windows movie ma from there it says movie maker doesn not support the file but i need it to get on windows movie maker so what do i do? easy 10 points i really need to make this amazing youtube video if you give me an answer like idk or idc or you cant i will delete it!

sometime it happens…
better u open the window containing the file..
and then open movie maker on another window..
keep them side by side by shortening the window sizes..
then drag the file into movie maker screen…
hope it will work…

I know people want more punchy saturated photos, and i would dare say your likely to get a under saturated photo. But is there any particular common situations where you would wanna under saturate your photos. Any information on this topic will be interesting.
I might also add, i find some of my portrait photos there skin colour comes out a little orange more than what u see in real life.

I sometimes use an effect that mimics the reduced tones of war films like Saving Private Ryan or Band of Brothers.

It’s quite easy to achieve and can add an alternative dimension to portrait shots. I generally add a black and white layer then reduce the opacity, then add a brownish solid colour fill layer and play with blending modes. You can also add a yellow neon glow to give highlights and the sky a yellow tint.
Once I’m done, I’ll usually increase the opacity of the B+W layer which has the effect of desaturating the image.

If skin tones look orange then that’s unnatural, and I would definitely rein that in, unless you want everyone to look like they spend 24/7 on a sunbed – You know when you’ve been Tangoed!

Note: Make sure your monitor screen is calibrated. If it isn’t you’ll have problems when printing or posting for general viewing. I’d go into colour management and use of ICC profiles, but that’s something you can look up here: http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials.htm
