How can i restore images in a corrupted usb flash drive?

Posted by admin on February 10th, 2010 and filed under images | 1 Comment »

Without knowing about FAT and FAT 32 thingys, I formatted my USB to FAT. I then saved images and mp3 files to my usb from a supposedly FAT32 compatible pc. Once ran the usb again in the said pc, the images appeared as a small box with x and the mp3s can’t be played. How can i restore my files? Thanks for the help.

It sounds like you may have had a write error on the drive by either taking it out before it could finish writing or because of some other issues while ejecting the drive. The problem wouldn’t be with FAT32 as it is such an old file system it has been universally supported by Mac, Linux, and Windows for decades.

When writing files to a flash drive, make sure to eject the volume before removing it from the computer. This varies from operating system to operating system so google "[your operating system] eject volume tutorial" and you’ll probably find a good resource on proper handling of your removable drives.
