I like a flower that is a closeup without much in the background. How you crop a flower picture can make all the difference. Or an interesting effect like one stalk in a pot or looking like it's growing out of a crack in the pavement, or several lying on a table. Or one big rose held in someone's hands.

If you take a shot of flowers or a single flower, as you said, there are millions of them out there. To make them unique, you need to develop your own unique style. It takes time and experimentation. You're actually treading into the area of fine art. There's not a lot of that out there; and what is out there isn't too good.
