Hubble Deep Field: The Most Imp. Image Ever Taken (Redux)

Posted by admin on April 17th, 2010 and filed under images | 25 Comments »

This is the latest incarnation of the HDF video. The narration has been edited to include research from a paper in Physical Review Letters (2004) which puts the size of the universe at 46.5 billion light years, not 78 billion as I originally stated.

In the video narration, I round that value up to 47 billion light years.

I also took out Numa Numa guy.

@Hobbnobbs I don’t mean that in a negative way, i just mean that we should atleast be able fully explore our own, before looking at other galaxies

    47 billion light …
47 billion light years radius. Whats beyond this point? dark space or maybe our universe is like a galexy. Its allot of different universes.

I think we evolve to slow our school is to easy. And for the not so smart can be workers that build stuff. We need to invent a engine that can go in light speed. So we can start to explore our own galexy. Find new planets if our own will die etc. The closest star to us is 21 light years away and it got planets around it.

    I wonder if that …
I wonder if that tiny space where they pointed the hubble was actually a sort of “peep hole” out of our own galaxy.
We haven’t even accomplished our own galaxy, why worry about the other ones?
It would be cool to be the rulers of our own galaxy, the to move on to the next. ones

    Not sure why this …
Not sure why this is ‘the most important image ever taken by humanity’. ‘We’re not special’ is hardly news, and throwing in ‘maybe there’s life out there’ is pointless because it’s out there, beyond your reach, and therefore a long time ago.
This is navel gazing when people outside our own doors, who definitely do exist, need your help. If you’re truly humbled, get off your arse and help them.

    Some speculate we …
Some speculate we are being watched by others but we are too violent, uncivilized, or in some theories just not advanced enough.. technologically or socially to be worth a trip. I mean think about if an intelligent life realy did visit us.. I feel it would throw our world into even more chaos… I guess it can only be chalked up to a philosophical conversation b/c how can you determine how we stack up against other life.. when we know noting about it
