What can be done to convert these pictures and future pictures from that camera so that they can be viewed with Photo Gallery?

right click on any one of your files and click on "properties" Then you’ll see the file type and "opens with," click the change button, select Photo Gallery and click OK in both windows.

What kind of camera do you have? In some digital cameras, you have an option on how you want your file saved. If you do high end work and you want a lot of room for creativity in post, you save the file in ‘RAW’ format. Only you camera software is assured that it can view these pictures. If you save the file in jpeg, then most software has no issues with viewing it. The settings are assessable from the menu in your camera. Read the manual.
