http://www.ted.com Photographs do more than document history — they make it. At TED University, Jonathan Klein of Getty Images shows some of the most iconic, and talks about what happens when a generation sees an image so powerful it can’t look away — or back.

TEDTalks is a daily video podcast of the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world’s leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes. Featured speakers have included Al Gore on climate change, Philippe Starck on design, Jill Bolte Taylor on observing her own stroke, Nicholas Negroponte on One Laptop per Child, Jane Goodall on chimpanzees, Bill Gates on malaria and mosquitoes, Pattie Maes on the “Sixth Sense” wearable tech, and “Lost” producer JJ Abrams on the allure of mystery. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design, and TEDTalks cover these topics as well as science, business, development and the arts. Closed captions and translated subtitles in a variety of languages are now available on TED.com, at http://www.ted.com/translate. visions of cameras …
visions of cameras being outfitted with compass & recording the long- and latitude along with the date would really make the collages a fascinating tale of through times and well as see a collage . . . of the here and now. . . or was that the then and now

BungaEBiker Some people have never seen the picture or video I mentioned . if you type in Tienemin Square Tank a few of the better quality videos regarding what he did are there. To answer a pointed question. The reason, I think, they didn’t run him down was they new what they where doing was wrong. They also where soldiers who where trained to face other soldiers not someone who could have been a member of their own family. Killing him wasn’t so easy when he was unarmed and not willing to fight

Those are from a bygone era. There is too much media now for photos to matter. Its the video era.

    Oh, and climate …
Oh, and climate deniers whinging about ‘climategate’: All investigations conclude that global warming is real, and no evidence of malpractice. Reality trumps politics, as always.

  7. wrongheadedfool Says:

    People are …
People are seriously complaining that he didn’t show a pic for every atrocity committed in the previous century? He only had 8 minutes, and the talk was NOT called “A Photo History of Bad Things That Happened From 1900-2000″. Not everything is a sneaky political move, people!

    I’m going to do …
I’m going to do photography everyday.

@jpatton1989 My view is that the people who believe the global warming hypothesis actually believe it religiously. They don’t care about facts, background, or proving the hypothesis–they just blindly believe it–religiously.

    WHAT ABOUT:

    1. The student standing in front of the tanks in Tienanmen square
    2. The monk self-immolating to protest the Vietnam war
    ?????

Those are far better examples of what he was talking about than any of the images he showed. Iconic, and had a major impact on the world.

    wow…I don’t know …
wow…I don’t know if I should even waste my time with you. You are an absolute idiot. I’M THE ONE WHO SAID GLOBAL WARMING IS FAKE! But as far as cnn or fox news is concerned. I don’t care for the news. Although if I did watch the news I would certainly watch some of Fox. Bc every single station is bias. When I want to hear a liberal point of view, I watch any news station. But when I want to hear the conservative side: it’s FOX news.Unfortunately all news is unfair bc each has its views…moron

  20. Kargoneth Says:

    The earth’s climate …
The earth’s climate is warming. This is a fact. When you ignore the global temperature measurements of the earth for the past 10 years which show an increase, you can twist it to your own devices.

@TherianthropeAndrewH – “in my class who only seem to be interested in fashion; to me such images are pointless & mean nothing.” – Sure. but i am sure they will make more money or have a better future than the people who take pictures of wildlife and planets ;-)

    Notice how there …
Notice how there were photos shown of the brutal Communist atrocities that took the lives of over a 100 million people last century. How could this be? Not even one? Beware of ideologically driven leftists selectively choosing propaganda for you to absorb.
