I did this as an excercise for the purpose of, quite simply, practice. It’s been a while since I attempted anything photo-real… It’s very good to do this kind of thing because it strengthens your freehand drawing abilities, as well as developing an eye for detail.
Freehand drawn in photoshop cs2 (from a reference photo off to the side) with a wacom tablet.
time-lapsed… real time was about 3 and a half hours.

This is simply …
This is simply amazing and I’ll leave it at that- How long does it typically take you to finish one of these?
Also I’ve considered buying a tablet, could you give your opinion on digital art in general? Any difficulties or advantages to using a tablet? (is it overall harder/easier to create art with? what aspects? etc)
I really appreciate your work, it truly is an inspiration.

It’s simply a few …
It’s simply a few seconds of video that’s missing. This stuff is recorded at about 10-20 minutes at a time, and at the end of each “chunk” I stop to let the the software save/render the footage to disc in case of crash. I probably overlapped two vid clips where the earrings were being drawn.

canvas, paint and …
canvas, paint and brush are technology too. When artists first started to paint on canvas, I think the others didn’t slag them saying how easy this for you and you are depending on technology, but they actually copied it and started to paint on canvas too.
The methods are changing, but art remains art.

For the drawing …
For the drawing part of it, I am self taught. For the Photoshop part, it is a mixture of learning from others and discovering my own technique.
